The existence of reflexive and revealing tendencies found within this body of work generates this echoic effect – an effect only evident through relationship. Each artist explores questions of social interaction and self-reflection in deeply personal and universal ways. Laura Gipson beautifully fuses the fragile and the tensile in her sculptural constructions of everyday objects that speak to the shared human experience of inner dialogue. The collaborative work of Ariya Martin and Michael Winters builds on notions of self in relation to another close individual. Their multi-media installation incorporates video and photograms that use light as a means to reveal and conceal – reflective of the ongoing dynamic found within our ever-present dialectical social relationships. Artist Rachel DeTrinis combines traditional handmade processes and materials with digital media, creating a subtle yet strong dialogue of identity politics.
